‘Only Nation to Lose a Sailor’: India Speaks Out at 60-Nation Meet on Hormuz (X)
New Delhi: India has made a strong point in the international meeting regarding the Strait of Hormuz. In this discussion hosted by Britain, India said that Indians are also among the sailors who lost their lives in the attacks on this route. India clearly said that the sea route should be opened immediately and the movement of ships should be made safe.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri participated from the Indian side. He said that the situation is serious and it is directly impacting trade and oil supply. India also said that all countries will have to find a way out together.
This sea route is counted among the most important oil transportation routes in the world. A large part of the air coming from the Gulf region passes through this route. In such a situation, any kind of disruption here directly impacts the global market and oil prices.
India is a major importer of crude oil and a major part of its needs comes from the Middle East. Due to the current situation, uncertainty regarding supply has increased. This is putting pressure on prices and also affecting the energy security of the country.
According to government figures, three Indian sailors have been killed in the attacks in this area, while one is said to be injured. Apart from this, information about Indian citizens being affected in some other cases has also come to light.
India has made it clear that it prefers the diplomatic route rather than any military action. The Foreign Ministry said that all parties should find a solution through dialogue so that the situation does not worsen further.
In this meeting of more than 60 countries, issues like maritime security, oil supply and regional stability were discussed. In particular, it was raised that the closure of this route is affecting the global economy.
According to the government, a large number of Indians live in Gulf countries. Everyone's safety is being monitored. The embassy is in constant touch.
In recent times, India has also done the work of safely evacuating its citizens from Iran. Many people were brought out through Azerbaijan. The government says that the situation is being constantly monitored and steps will be taken as per the need.
